Position Function:

Provides assistance to the Assistant Athletic Director for Academics in order to help facilitate the academic development and progress of student-athletes toward degree completion in assigned sport. This position reports to the Assistant Athletic Director for Academics. This position will provide academic assistance to student-athletes in one or more sports, assist with departmental record keeping activities, provide assistance with departmental liaison activities, and will supervise a minimum of one graduate assistant.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

A. Provides academic assistance to student-athletes:
1. Assists in enrollment procedures
2. Assists with admissions process
3. Provides student counseling, as requested
4. Assists with on-campus recruiting
5. Works with faculty and coaches, as needed, to monitor class attendance, study hall attendance, and reports on student
progress, and performs other related tasks.

B. Assists with departmental record keeping activities:
1. Assists with the maintenance of student-athlete records
2. Assists in the maintenance of current information on student-athletes' academic degree program
3. Assists in the maintenance of accurate records relative to student-athlete eligibility
4. Assists with reports and surveys related to academics

C. Provides assistance with departmental liaison activities.
1. Provides liaison services with University faculty, as well as admissions and registrar personnel.
2. Assists with informing coaches on academic matters relative to Student-Athletes

D. Performs related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility
Supervision of student-workers, tutors, and/ or interns as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, or related field with at least 2-4 years of experience in an Athletic Academic Office on a university campus.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in Education, Counseling, or related field with at least 4-5 years of experience in an Athletic Academic Office on a university campus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Must have strong interpersonal and organizational skills
2. Knowledge of Grades First
3. Knowledge of NCAA and SEC rules and regulations
4. Excellent verbal/written communication skills
5. Computer /Technological skills
6. Able to work with a diverse group of people with various backgrounds, education levels, and cultural differences

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

• Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
• No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
• No or very limited physical effort required.
• Concentrates on documents for periods of time up to two hours in length.
• Types documents for periods of time up to an hour at a time without a break.
• Ability to work at night, and on weekends.
• Ability to meet deadlines, to work after hours, and to travel as needed on a limited basis.
• Ability to sit at computer for extended periods of time.

Assistant Director, Washington, D.C. & Federal Programs

his position is under the administrative supervision of the Executive Director of the MSU Career Center. The Assistant Director for D.C. & Federal Careers provides leadership for Mississippi State University's Washington, D.C. and federal career initiatives, helping students explore, prepare for, and secure internships and career opportunities within congressional offices, federal agencies, public service organizations, and policy-focused employers. The Assistant Director is responsible for developing strategic partnerships with academic units, employers, alumni, federal agencies, congressional offices, and external organizations that expand opportunities for MSU students. The position oversees established D.C. programs, including the Demmer Scholars Program and The Washington Center partnership, while identifying and implementing strategies to increase student participation in federal internships, the Pathways Program, and other public service opportunities. This position develops and executes initiatives designed to strengthen Mississippi State University's presence in Washington, D.C., including student programs, alumni engagement efforts, employer partnerships, and experiential learning opportunities. Duties include program management, student advising, employer and alumni relations, event planning, project management, and assessment.
