Position Function:

Provide supplemental athletic training coverage for a sport or program as assigned by the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine/Head Athletic Trainer and perform other duties as assigned. Must be a BOC Certified Athletic Trainer or eligible to sit for the BOC Exam and be able to be licensed by the State of Mississippi.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Assist Sports Medicine Staff with the athletic training needs for sports or programs as assigned. This includes direct team and sport/program coverage (home and away).
2. Assist in the day-to-day operations of the athletic training room. Ensure proper use of equipment and facilities by assigned students and student-athletes, including adherence to athletic training room time schedules and proper operating procedures.
3. Assist the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine/Head Athletic Trainer with the prevention and care of assigned student and student-athlete injuries and illnesses.
a. Maintain computerized health/injury records on supervised students and student-athletes.
b. Serve as liaison between students and student-athletes and the team physician. This includes ensuring compliance with team physician instructions.
4. Obtain required continuing education requirements to fulfill and maintain state and BOC certifications.
5. Ability to work as a part of a team with the strength and conditioning, sports nutrition, and sport psychology/counseling staffs.

Supervisory Responsibility:
This position does have supervisory responsibility for student athletic trainers.

Minimum Qualifications:

- Education: Bachelor’s degree in related field
- Certification or Licensure Requirements: Must be certified as BOC Certified Athletic Trainer and be able to be licensed by the State of Mississippi.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with a Professional/Collegiate Division 1 athletic program as a certified athletic trainer.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of certain fundamental concepts.
• Ability to work long and irregular hours.
• Ability to travel.
• Ability to work in extreme weather temperatures.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

• Regularly involves lifting, bending or other physical exertion. Often exposed to one or more elements such as heat, cold, noise, dirt, chemicals, etc.
• Job frequently requires walking, standing, lifting, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, and handling objects with hands.
• Requires handling of heavy weight objects up to 100 lbs. on a regular basis and on occasion up to 150 lbs.

Collaboration with sport coaches, strength and conditioning, performance dietetics, sports medicine, sports psychology and university administration will be priority. Continuous improvement of communication, primarily through clean measurement, organization, and data-dissemination will be necessary. The Director of Football Sports Science will orient this position's focus and provide opportunities for creativity while maintaining the integrity of the teams’ goals.
