Position Function:
To perform a variety of duties in support of services provided by Facilities Management including routine minor maintenance and upkeep of buildings.
Salary Grade: BMT-1

Department Profile:
One of three departments in the College of Forest Resources, the Department of Sustainable Bioproducts activities include undergraduate/graduate instructions, research and service programs in natural resources.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform routine, preventative and reactive maintenance, and repair on buildings, equipment, structures, and other amenities. Responsible for minor repairs which may include; changing defective receptacles, ballasts, switches, outlets, light fixtures and bulbs, repair of valves, replacement of washers and gaskets, replacement of plumbing fixtures, replacing hinges, door closures, service door closures, replace floor tiles, caulk windows, replace glass and reset doors. Erect and work from ladders, scaffolds, and similar devices. Determine type of materials and supplies to be used. Adapt commercially available materials to fit needs. Document job time and materials used. Keep facilities in a clean and presentable condition. Work hours as needed for special events. Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or GED.
Experience: One (1) year of experience equivalent to duties described above.
Title and salary commensurate with qualifications.
Substitutions: An equivalent combination of related education and related experience may be considered for this position.
Licensure: Valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience performing general building maintenance, repairs, or facilities-related work.
Experience or technical training in plumbing, carpentry and/or electrical repair.
Experience or technical training in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
Trade certification or licensure in a relevant building trade, or willingness to obtain certification or licensure as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to work effectively with others as part of a team. Good verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of preventative maintenance and building repair. Ability to safely use hand and power tools. Ability to understand and follow safety protocols. Ability to troubleshoot basic maintenance and repair issues.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Regularly involves lifting, bending or other physical exertion. Often exposed to one or more elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, etc. Occasional-Routine deadlines; usually sufficient lead time; variance in work volume seasonal and predictable; priorities can be anticipated; some interruptions are present; travel or other inconveniences have advance notice; involves occasional exposure to demands and pressures from persons other than immediate supervisor. Job frequently requires standing, walking, reaching, climbing or balancing, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
Job occasionally requires sitting, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, and lifting more than 100 pounds. Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
