Position Function:

Position Function: This position provides support to the Office of Academic Affairs and will engage with, support and be a resource for MSU-CVM students on all matters related to applying for, securing and being awarded available financial aid and scholarships.

Salary Grade:  13

Please see Staff Compensation Structure or Skilled Crafts and Service Maintenance Compensation Schedule for salary ranges.  For salary grade UC, these positions are "Unclassified" and salary ranges are determined by the hiring department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Duties and responsibilities
1) Participates in the development and refinement of operating procedures and goals for the position.
2) Oversees and manages the DVM scholarship process in conjunction with the CVM Scholarship committee
3) Counsels DVM students on the financial aid process, timelines, resources, etc. that are unique to veterinary students
4) Provides oversight, continuity and support for the MSU-CVM Scholarship committee and its functions
5) Maintains a close working relationship with MSU-CVM staff in the office of development to ensure accuracy in the availability of scholarships
6) Manages the awarding and distribution of scholarships to students
7) Manages process and procedures students use to thank donors
8) Provides financial aid counseling to students about financial aid programs and resources
9) Develops financial aid and scholarship resources targeted specifically for CVM students
10) Works with and assists CVM students to resolve any financial holds on their accounts affecting enrollment
11) Responds to mail and phone inquiries about financial aid and scholarships
12) Conducts financial aid and scholarships presentation as needed at college events such as DVM interviews and orientation.
13) Assist students in aspects of financial literacy and responsibility including building and maintaining budgets.
14) Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Supervisory Responsibility: May be responsible for training, assisting with or assigning tasks to others. May provide input to performance evaluations of other employees.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred qualifications: Experience in a Student Financial Aid/Scholarships Office or other Student Services Office in a college or university setting. Experience in training, coaching or instructing students on matters related to financial aid and scholarships.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Candidate must:
1) possess knowledge of federal, state, and institutional financial aid procedures sufficient to guide DVM students
2) be able to develop financial aid and scholarship resources and work collaboratively with other related offices to ensure the function of the position is working effectively
3) have strong organizational and computer skills (Word, Adobe, Excel, etc.) applicable to the position with great attention to detail
4) must have strong written and verbal communication skills
5) possess an ability to lead or coordinate the activities of others
6) be honest and dependable in their interactions with others
7) be able to meet and adhere to deadlines

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands. Job requires standing, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
