Position Function:

The Director of Student Services is responsible for leading, developing, and managing programs, services, and resources that promote student success.

Salary Grade:  16

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following examples are intended as illustrations only of the various types of duties assigned in positions allocated to this classification. 1. Provide strategic leadership for all student services functions to foster student development, satisfaction, and success
2. Supervise and support staff in the areas of academic advising, financial aid, counseling services, career development, and related services
3. Develop and implement policies and programs that enhance the student experience in alignment with the institution’s mission and goals
4. Coordinate student support services to address academic needs
5. Manage and coordinate financial aid operations for the MSU Meridian Campus
6. Provide advising and support to students and families regarding financial aid, scholarships, and veteran education benefits, including assistance with application processes and eligibility requirements
7. Administer Meridian scholarship and endowed fund programs by collaborating with the Office of Admissions & Scholarships, serving on the Meridian Scholarship Committee, and ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and institutional regulations.
8. Lead initiatives to improve student retention and graduation rates
9. Oversee budget planning and resource allocation for student services department
10. Conduct regular assessments of student services programs, analyzing data and implementing improvements
11. Serve as a liaison between students, faculty, staff, and administration to address student academic concerns
12. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations related to student services, including Title IX, ADA, and FERPA
13. Develop partnerships with external organizations to enhance career development, internships, and community engagement opportunities for students
14. Perform administrative duties for Meridian programs of study (e.g., course overrides, DegreeWorks changes, etc.)
15. Advise students on account – related issues
16. Keep up with all state, federal, and institutional rules and regulations applicable to the administration of scholarships, students financial aid, and veteran benefits
17. Plan and assist with student services events and orientations
18. Provide career planning advisement to students
19. Assist with marketing and communication plans for Meridian programs of study
20. Confer with faculty advisors and department heads relative to academic records, credits, policy and program requirements,
21. Compose correspondence involving a high degree of judgement, originality, and a broad knowledge of University practices and procedures
22. Assist as needed with orientation, preregistration, and registration procedures.
23. Collaborate with Student Services team in sharing ideas on how to best serve local community college students in feeder programs
24. Answer email inquiries sent by prospective and new students
25. Assist division chairs and division faculty in other areas as needed
26. Compile statistical data for various reports as requested
27. Perform assignments with judgement and discretion
28. Assist Dean of Students Office as needed

Supervisory Responsibility:

Supervise the Student Services office which includes Student Services Coordinators and Enrollment Services Coordinator

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's Degree
Experience: 3 - 5 years experience in a student or customer service role

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Education beyond the minimum
2. Direct experience working with students on a college campus
3. Experience working in settings that promote an understanding of technical education

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Ability to communicate and relate to students and university personnel.
2. Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet programs.
3. Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills required.
4. Excellent organizational skills required.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

1. Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
2. No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
3. No or very limited physical effort required.
