Position Function:

The Instructor in Computer Science and Engineering is under the administrative supervision of the Computer Science and Engineering Department Head. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate, and possibly split-level courses with a focus on cybersecurity and related courses, as well as advising undergraduate students. Instructor will also serve on Undergraduate Studies Committee and aid in Undergraduate Curriculum development.

Salary Grade:  UC

Department Profile:

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (http://www.cse.msstate.edu), part of the Bagley College of Engineering, at Mississippi State University is a vibrant and growing academic unit with a strong focus on education, research, and service. Mississippi State University is designated as both an R1 – Very High Research Activity Doctoral University under the Carnegie Classification and as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Operations, Cyber Defense Research, and Cyber Defense Education by the National Security Agency.
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering is home to 28 faculty members and serves approximately 1,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The department offers undergraduate degrees in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Cybersecurity, and Artificial Intelligence, and jointly administers a Computer Engineering program with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The Computer Science program includes concentrations in Artificial Intelligence, Systems, Human and Visual Computing, Computational Science, and General Computer Science. In addition, the department offers a Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.S.) in Cybersecurity and three undergraduate minors: Computer Science, Software Engineering, and Artificial Intelligence.
An accelerated B.S./M.S. program allows students to complete a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or Software Engineering alongside a Master of Science in Computer Science in four academic years plus one calendar year. At the graduate level, the department offers M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science, as well as standalone M.S. degrees in Cyber Security and Operations, Artificial Intelligence, and Data Science. Faculty also supervise graduate students in Computational Engineering. Certificate programs are available in Information Assurance, Cyber Operations, and Computational Biology.
In the most recent fiscal year, the department reported research expenditures exceeding $4.6 million. Core research areas include cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, computational science, visualization and graphics, bioinformatics, parallel and distributed computing, software engineering, human-robot interaction, augmented and virtual reality, and computer science education. Faculty members are actively involved in several major university research centers, including the Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems, the Center for Cyber Innovation, the Center for Computational Science, and the Institute for Genomics, Biocomputing & Biotechnology.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Teach undergraduate and possibly split-level courses (with focus on cybersecurity and related courses) Advise undergraduate students.
Serve on Undergraduate Studies Committee.
Aid in Undergraduate Curriculum development.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree in Computer Science or closely related field, or the equivalent in training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

PhD in Computer Science or closely related field, or the equivalent in training and experience. Teaching experience in Computer Science or closely related field at the college level.
