Position Function:
Serves as a remote research assistant and is administratively associated with the MSU Coastal Research and Extension Center in support of its Experimental Seafood Processing Lab.
Employees hired into Intermittent positions are limited to working no more than 720 hours per fiscal year.
Salary Grade: UC

Department Profile:
Mississippi State University’s Coastal Research and Extension Center in support of its Experimental Seafood Processing Lab (CREC-ESPL) is seeking an intermittent remote worker for automation production. This position is limited to working 720 hours within a fiscal year (July 1-June 30).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Work in all phases of the development lifecycle, including requirements definition, software/systems design, implementation, testing, integration, and system support.
2. Integrate new image processing capabilities into automation production system, supported by AI/ML or classic image processing.
3. Collaborate with research staff and industry partners focused on both conventionally fabricated and additively manufactured materials and to assist with material qualification through computational modeling.
4. Primary areas of focus will be the modeling and analysis of materials and composite structures during a variety of manufacturing processes that may be mechanical, thermal, or electrical in nature.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Experience with additive manufacturing, image processing, programming (C++, python, etc.), and hardware setup, as required by the supervisor
2. Academic and/or work experience related to the field of research
3. Knowledge of research methods
4. Ability to work under pressure
5. Excellent time management skills
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
1. No unusual physical requirements. Requires limited lifting of files and records and nearly all work is performed in a comfortable indoor facility.
2. Frequent- External imposed deadlines; set and revised beyond one's control; interruptions influence priorities; difficulty to anticipate nature or volume of work with certainty beyond a few days; meeting of deadlines and coordination of unrelated activities are key to position; involves conflict-resolution or similar interactions involving emotion issues or stress on a regular basis.
3. Ability to occasionally work weekends and long hours.
