Position Function:

The Marketing and Communications Coordinator works and reports to with the Head of Agricultural Communications to plan, develop and implement the branding and marketing strategies and activities of the Mississippi State university Extension and other entities within the Division of Agriculture, Forestry, and Veterinary Medicine.

Salary Grade:  14

Department Profile:

The Office of Agricultural Communications provides professional communications, leadership and marketing strategies, media production and publications management, to serve the MSU Extension Service and the Division of Agriculture, Forestry & Veterinary Medicine and select organizations. Our department specializes in media relations, graphic design, photography, video production, social media, and premium grade printing services.

Anticipated Appointment Date:

November 2026. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Assist in designing, planning, and implementing the strategic branding and marketing program for the Mississippi State University Extension Service.
a. Research and write copies for brochures, advertising,
video projects, ·websites, displays, presentations, and other communications tools.
b. Collaborate with other professionals with Agricultural Communications to plan and execute projects and meet deadlines.
c. Support other Extension colleagues, as needed, with training and consultation related to branding issues.
2. Develop marketing materials for promotional handouts and create annual reports for Extension programing and other activities within the Division of Agriculture, Forestry, and Veterinary Medicine.
3. Assist the Head of Agricultural Communications and the Mississippi State University Extension Service by providing professional marketing consultation.
4. Provide back-up graphic design support, from the concept to delivery,
for marketing accountability pieces.
5. Collaborate with Ag Communications Social Media Specialists and the Extension Center of Technology Outreach to contribute to web and social media submissions ensuring that all activities and interactions are consistent with and appropriate to MSU Extension's branding guidelines.
6. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Communication; with a focus in public relations, graphic design, marketing, and journalism
Experience (yrs.): Three years experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

I. Excellent writing skills, with experience in both copy and feature writing.
2. Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies
3. Knowledgeable and practices skills related to marketing and communications
4. Demonstrated competence of computer applications such as Microsoft suite, Adobe Creative Suite, (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
5. Knowledge of web-based communication usage and styles
6. Ability to prioritize competing demands and to meet deadlines
7. Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information
8. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
9. Understanding usage of Project Management software for updating projects and team coordination
10. Must be willing to travel to conduct in-person interviews when needed
11. Must be willing to work occasional evenings and weekends for special events.
12. Must hold valid driver's license

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

1. Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs.
2. Must be able to walk stairs
