Position Function:

The Student Care Coordinator (SCC) reports to the Director of MSU Student Counseling Services and the Dean of Students serving in the Division of Student Affairs. The Student Care Coordinator (SCC) is responsible for helping students navigate care and concern challenges they face at MSU. The SCC works within the existing Care and Concern network of the DOS office and within the framework of the Student Counseling Center when doing clinical counseling and when performing outreach/educational programming. Additionally, the SCC is responsible for providing intervention and consultation services for students, faculty and staff as needed. The SCC is also a referral resource to faculty and staff in the various academic units and staff departments at MSU where they will serve as an embedded liaison with students, faculty and staff within that unit(s) to promote an environment that promotes student success and positive mental health. The SCC may also when appropriate provide mental health services including individual, couple, and group counseling and for providing psycho-educational programming and workshops to the campus community.

Employees hired into Intermittent positions are limited to working no more than 720 hours per fiscal year.

Salary Grade:  14

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Case Management/Care and Concern:
1. To work as part of the existing Care and Concern Network and provide intervention to students with appropriate referrals to campus and community resources as needed.
2. Engage with established referral structure and managing cases associated with college/dept through referral system and care and concern process.
3. Log referrals and student and faculty caseload into Maxient.
4. Determine needs for intervention, identification, and activation of appropriate resources and responses, ongoing monitoring, and evaluation of outcome and referrals.
5. Other duties as assigned.

Outreach:
1. To serve as liaison with an academic college or department and other divisional offices.
2. To provide outreach programming to the university.
3. To provide consultation services and training to faculty and/or staff affiliated with the assigned college or department or administrative division.

Therapy:
1. To provide individual, group, and couples counseling to MSU students.
2. To provide a rotating Counselor-on Duty response for urgent care between 8am and 5pm.
3. To share rotating evening and weekend emergency on-call response with other clinicians.
4. Maintain clinical case files in accordance with the highest legal, ethical, and professional standards when providing confidential clinical counseling.
5. To provide outreach, prevention, and consultation to students affiliated with an assigned college/department weekly.

Supervisory Responsibility:
This position reports jointly to the Director of Student Counseling Services (or their designee) in relation to mental health counseling services provided to clients as well as outreach activities and to the Dean of Students (or their designee) for the Case Management/Care and concern duties.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree with a focus in mental health counseling, social work, or another licensed eligible mental health related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

Masters degree from an accredited institution of higher education in clinical mental health, social work, or a related field or PhD. in clinical or counseling psychology, clinical mental health or a related field from an accredited institution of higher education with 1 or more years of experience within a college counseling center. Licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Social Worker or Licensed Psychologist or eligible to be licensed within 2 years in the state of Mississippi.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Experience helping student/individuals navigating life challenges.
2. Experience, knowledge and training in provision of individual, group and couple counseling.
3. Experience in provision of psycho-educational/outreach programming and workshops.
4. Experience with working with trauma related diagnoses.
5. Experience in provision of clinical services within a university counseling center preferred.
6. Ability to interact effectively and professionally with students.
7. Knowledge of and adherence to ethical standards endorsed by licensing professional organization.
8. Possess strong student orientation.
9. Motivated to function effectively with the organizational and administrative structure of a university.
10. Value involvement and participation within the Division of Student Affairs.
11. The ability to work with a diverse student population.
12. Ability to create and maintain, collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

No unusual physical requirements. Requires no heavy lifting, and nearly all work is performed in a comfortable indoor facility.
Frequent - Externally imposed deadlines; set and revised beyond one’s control; interruptions influence priorities; difficult to anticipate nature or volume of work with certainty beyond a few days; travel or irregular hours often anticipated; meeting of deadlines and coordination of unrelated activities are key to position; involves conflict-resolution or similar interactions involving emotional issues or stress on a regular basis

Job requires standing, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, and lifting up to 10 pounds
