Position Function:
The Survivor Support Advocate (SSA) is responsible for the effective support of the Reduce Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault and Stalking on Campus Program including planning, implementation, and evaluation of required activities associated with the grant project. The SSA offer emotional support, victims' rights information, help in finding needed resources and assistance in filling out crime victim related forms; and frequently accompany victims and their family members through the criminal justice proceedings if required. The SSA assists the Director with responding to MSU students needing support as well as response to all VAWA crimes, including domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.
Salary Grade: 13

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Develops safety plans, conducts risk assessments; provides emotional support, crisis intervention, prevention awareness and education to students.
2. Provides services to ensure 24/7 response for the Office of Survivor Support.
3. Inform students of their rights, and options for available clinical/medical services.
4. Serves as support for students identifying as victims through the medical process, legal procedures, and MSU Code of Conduct processes.
5. Maintains contact with students through follow-up for ongoing applicable support.
6. Collaborates with various campus and community entities to facilitate outreach events, networking opportunities and resource connections for students.
7. Maintains accurate account of all services from onset through final documentation.
8. Assist in planning activities/trainings with the MSU Coordinate Community Response Team.
9. Assist in the development and implementation of the strategic plan and needs assessments.
10. Participates in meetings with the Victims Assault Response Team (VART) as needed.
11. Assists in planning and support to promotes agency program activities and services.
12. Collaborates with university cross-functional groups and external agencies in support of the mission of the Office of Survivor Support.
13. Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position will not have supervisory responsibility.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social work or related field
Experience: 2 years experience directly related to job duties of the position
Substitution: Any equivalent combination or related experience and/or education approved by the Department of Human Resources Management
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Strong customer focus in a counseling or related field.
2. Experience working with grants.
3. General understanding of violence prevention work.
4. Previous experience with health education amongst university populations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. In-depth knowledge of providing customer assistance and support.
2. Excellent writing and professional speaking skills.
3. Demonstrated ability to work through sensitive topics with students/administrators.
4. Proficient use of PC and Microsoft suite is required.
5. Working knowledge of Title IX is required.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
1. Ninety-five percent of work is performed in a comfortable indoor facility.
2. External imposed deadlines; set beyond one’s control; interruptions influence priorities.
3. Difficult to anticipate nature or volume of work with certainty beyond a few days.
4. Job requires frequent sitting, talking, listening, and attention to detail.
5. Job occasionally requires standing, walking, reaching, handling objects.
with hands; lifting 20 pounds.
