Position Function:

The Video Producer is a member of the Electronic Media Section in the Office of Agricultural Communications. This position creates video news and feature stories, social media video, promotional and educational project work, graphic elements, and supplementary media for MSU Extension podcast episodes. This position supports the teaching, research, and service mission of the Division of Agriculture, Forestry, and Veterinary Medicine.

The Division includes six major units: the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS),
the College of Forest Resources (CFR), the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM), the
Forest and Wildlife Research Center (FWRC), the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry
Experiment Station (MAFES), and the Mississippi State University Extension Service (MSU‐ES).

Salary Grade:  13

Department Profile:

The Office of Agricultural Communications provides professional communications, leadership and marketing strategies, media production, and publications management to serve the MSU Extension Service and the Division of Agriculture, Forestry, and Veterinary Medicine and select organizations. Our department specializes in educational and marketing publications, media relations, graphic design, photography, video production, social media, and premium-grade printing services.

Anticipated Appointment Date:

November 2026. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The person in this position must be skilled in video production and able to develop,
research, package and communicate ideas, concepts, storylines, and procedures to target
audiences through visual and aural media.

The position involves videography, script writing, nonlinear video editing, and narration of
scripts. This position is responsible for researching, writing, and producing educational and/or promotional video materials for internal and external audiences. The successful candidate will be expected to work as an effective team member, manage multiple projects, and deliver assignments on deadline.

Strong communication skills are necessary for working with MSU Extension program leaders and research specialists presenting complex subject matter. This necessitates the ability to transform technical, educational data into video productions appropriate for intended audiences. Advanced story telling capabilities are a must.

The video producer must be able to operate a variety of production equipment, including but not limited to, nonlinear video editing and graphics platforms, professional 4k video cameras, on set lighting, and other related production equipment. Knowledge of agriculture and/or MSU Extension programming would be beneficial.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education - Bachelor's Degree with a Focus on Journalism, Communications or closely related field

Experience (yrs.) One year Video production that includes writing, videography, editing with non-linear video editing systems and producing

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Strong writing skills appropriate for educational video production; demonstrated ability to pre-plan a field production, work independently to operate video editing platforms, use voice to communicate effectively, work well with diverse clientele, colleagues and the general public. High level production planning skills and creativity in script writing, videography, narration recording, and video and audio editing.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

- Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment but may also involve outdoor work under various weather and environmental conditions and work at various locations where video footage is required.
- Must be able to travel independently and be able to carry and use video production equipment including camera, tripod, audio recording equipment, light kit, and other essential equipment.
- Limited exposure to physical risk.
- Moderate physical effort required.
- Ability to life 50-100 lbs.
- Position requires frequent travel.
