The Instructional Technology Specialist is responsible for leading the unit’s instructional programs related to the makerspace technologies and assisting students with building their digital literacy skills. This includes, but is not limited to 3D printers and scanners, CNC laser cutter engravers, die-cut machines, CAD design software, and other makerspace technologies. Instructional programs include workshops, course-integrated instruction, and tutorials. The position is under the administrative supervision of the Technology and Innovation Director in the MaxxSouth Digital Media Center, located in Mitchell Memorial Library.

Department Profile:

The Mississippi State University Library system is comprised of six libraries that include the Mitchell Memorial Library, Bob and Kathy Luke Architecture, Art and Design Library, College of Veterinary Medicine Library, Phil Hardin Foundation Libraries on the Meridian Campus, and Gertrude C. Ford Foundation Library in Jackson, MS. The Mitchell Memorial Library houses the Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Library and the Frank and Virginia Williams Collection of Lincolniana. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develops workshops/webinars, course-integrated instruction, tutorials, and instructional
materials on technology and software including, but not limited to, 3D printers and
scanners, CNC laser cutter engravers, die-cut machines, CAD design software, and other
makerspace technologies.
• Collaborate with faculty to integrate makerspace technologies into existing curricula and
classroom activities to enhance student learning and engagement.
• Works collaboratively with campus constituencies and contributes to the development of
strategies and programs in support of digital literacy programs.
• Oversee the makerspace facility, including the management and maintenance of
equipment, tools, and resources.
• Offer technical support to students, faculty and staff who encounter issues with
makerspace technologies or require assistance with digital literacy skills.
• Evaluates, tests, and recommends new software and technology.
• Assists with the daily functions of the Digital Media Center.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor degree in Instructional Technology, Communication, Education, Engineering, or related field, with strong demonstrable knowledge of current technology and software applications and their use in an academic environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in Instructional Technology, Engineering, Communication, Education, or related field with specialization related to the position.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Must possess strong skills in computer technology, software, makerspace equipment,
communication, instruction, management, and organization.
• Ability to relate successfully with faculty members and students of diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure in a busy and demanding environment.
• Competency in 3D printer operation, troubleshooting, and repair.
• Familiarity with both Windows and Mac operating systems.
• Ability to master new makerspace equipment and fabrication and design techniques.
• Ability to develop workshops and tutorials that address various learning and teaching
styles.
• Strong interpersonal communication, and presentation skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
