Two post-doctoral associate positions are available at the Department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Entomology and Plant Pathology Department, Mississippi State University of for individuals interested in identification, characterization, epidemiology and diagnosis of viruses infecting cotton and other crops of interest.

Salary Grade:  UC

Department Profile:

The Department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Entomology and Plant Pathology pursues an academic research and service mission within the traditions of Land-Grant Universities. The Department offers B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees and currently advises approximately 500 undergraduate and 50 graduate students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsibilities and duties associated with these jobs include: designing and executing experiments, field sample collection and lab analyses, HTS-based virome data analyses and publication in scientific journals. Job requires mastery of commonly used virology techniques and good bioinformatics skills. Candidates should have ability to work well in a team as well as independently. The successful applicants are expected to perform research and data analyses independently applying scientifically sound procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

PhD in molecular plant virology (pathology), biology, molecular biology, bioinformatics or related field. Strong demonstrated background in traditional virological (inoculation, purification, etc), serological and molecular lab techniques, (meta)genomics and bioinformatics. The successful candidates are expected to carry out research independently and to have excellent written and oral communication skills. The applicants must demonstrate ability for excellent record keeping and ability to organize their time effectively.
