Position Function:
The function of the Intermittent Staff/ MMESC Special Projects Service Deliverer
is to organize and facilitate MMESC Special Projects being held at the specified sites in the state of Mississippi, including, but not limited to, after school programs, summer programs, and parental involvement activities.
Special Projects are designed to connect language, literature, technology, and life skills to develop English proficiency and promote academic achievement in reading and mathematics. Students from the migrant community present a unique set of educational challenges that often impact language development and student performance. Mississippi migrant students are from families that move frequently across school district boundaries for seasonal work in agriculture, poultry, forestry, or fishing. Due to frequent moves, new curricula, inconsistent school credit structures, and social conditions, the achievement gap widens for a migrant student each time there is a disruption of services.
Therefore, effective instruction must include assessment regarding language proficiency and academic achievement. Additionally, students’ progress must be monitored to make data-driven decisions regarding how to adjust instructional processes and materials to meet the needs of each individual migrant student. Research indicates that a school year, after school program and summer program for migrant students is vital to increasing student performance and lowering the dropout rates.
In conjunction, special attention must also be given to the needs of migrant parents, in order for them to become a successful parent and educational advocate for their child. Ultimately, parents are the principal teachers and motivators of their children. Encouraging parental involvement and promoting awareness of resources available to migrant parents are instrumental in ensuring student success in academics and the achievement of the standards of the Migrant Education Program.
Responsibilities include working in conjunction with the MMESC Project Coordinator, MMESC Director, and any additional MMESC Staff as needed to ensure the success of a program.
Employees hired into Intermittent positions are limited to working no more than 720 hours per fiscal year.
Salary Grade: UC
Please see Staff Compensation Structure or Skilled Crafts and Service Maintenance Compensation Schedule for salary ranges. For salary grade UC, these positions are "Unclassified" and salary ranges are determined by the hiring department.
Department Profile:
