Provide leadership and direction in residence education and life, as well as and student learning functions. Promote a sense of home, safety, well-being, and connectedness within on campus housing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Works with residential education leadership to manage strategic educational programs and assess effectiveness.
2. Supervises, trains, develops, and evaluates 3-4 professional full-time Community Directors. Indirectly supervise 3-4 graduate Residence Directors and application student staff area
3. In collaboration with campus partners, create and coordinate living-learning/theme housing community development initiatives to engage students in learning opportunities outside of the classroom
4. Leads initiatives related to specialized strategic objectives. Responsibilities could include student behavior intervention strategies including Title IX related issues, alcohol and drug education, and diversity and social justice practices within the residence halls
5. Facilitates leadership development, academic initiatives, residential curriculum development and assessment, staff development and training, leadership course creation and implementation, staff recruitment and selection, and student/staff conduct and behavior modification strategies
6. Chairs departmental committees related to strategic functional responsibilities
7. Collaborate with departmental and outside departmental staff to make decisions regarding policies including housing damage appeals, policy violations, and emotional support animal process approvals
8. Trains staff on the use of information management systems, crisis response, and student development
9. Develops department program initiatives and implement an assessment cycle to determine the effectiveness of programs and services. Craft, implement, and manage student engagement strategies based on assessment
10. Ensures compliance with departmental, university, staff and federal standards, policies and laws
11. Aids in emergency and crisis management on campus
12. Serves in departmental on-call duty rotation
13. Actively serves on departmental, divisional, and/or university-wide committees and related professional associations
14. Teaching responsibilities for student and professional staff
15. Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s in Arts or Sciences in Counseling, Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, College Student Personnel, or related field

3-5 years experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• Supervisory experience of full-time and/or post-masters level staff
• Management of selection processes for student and professional staff
• Experience with assessing the effectiveness of a residential program
• Proficiency in training staff members and experience implementing a curriculum into the classroom with academic courses

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Excellent communication and intrapersonal skills
2. Knowledgeable about student development, crisis management, student conduct, student leadership, staff development, and professional development
3. Demonstrated ability to build cohesive teams that can accomplish goals set for them
4. Proficient knowledge of computer applications (e.g., Microsoft suite) and management systems

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

• Assistant Directors may be called upon to stand, walk, bend, squat, climb stairs, and lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
• Externally imposed deadlines, set or revised on short notice, frequent shifts in priority, numerous interruptions requiring immediate attention, unusual pressure on a daily basis due to accountability for success for major projects or areas of operation.
• Job frequently requires sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, and relationship building with outside departments.
• Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
