The Video Producer is a professional, collaborative member of the OPA team who works to advance the Mississippi State brand by telling its story through compelling and focused creative video production. The main focus of the position is design and production for the university’s social media efforts, creating original, imaginative and innovative content. Assistance with other office video needs can be expected. The Video Producer works alongside and supports the Social Media Strategists, Marketing Coordinator and the Chief Marketing Officer.

Department Profile:

The Mississippi State University Office of Public Affairs operates within the Division of Strategic Communications. The office includes strategic marketing/branding; news, photography and graphic design units; the University Television Center; and WMSV radio station.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

--Create and produce—as well as assist in implementation—of video to further the university brand, especially for use on university social media platforms
--Use photo and video equipment, editing software and multimedia tools—including cell phone—for design and production in video storytelling
--Review, evaluate and make recommendations for new video assets alongside marketing/branding colleagues toward a goal of increasing engagement
--Write copy for video, graphics and other digital assets
--Work independently and collaboratively with content strategists, designers and writers
--Support strategic marketing goals and the university brand through consistent social media engagement with multiple audiences, including prospective and current students, parents, alumni and other stakeholders
--Help monitor the university’s central social channels including Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn and others
--Provide regular analytics on the effectiveness of video assets and report findings to colleagues and leadership
--Play a role in crises situations, capturing important content
--Work with student workers who aid in development of social content

Minimum Qualifications:

--Bachelor’s degree in digital design, broadcast/digital journalism, digital media, fine arts, graphic design or related field.
--One year of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

--Experience in a higher education setting
--Demonstrated work in brand development through video production
--Demonstrated success in campaigns through videography, photography and editing skills
--Ability to work in a team setting or independently

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

--Advanced computer skills and technical ability to fulfill job responsibilities
--Creative abilities to develop content original to the university, advancing the brand
--Ability to work on multiple projects, be self-motivated and detail-oriented
--Proven experience with photo/video equipment, editing software and multimedia tools, including Adobe Creative Suite (Final Cut Pro), Premiere Pro or other video editing software
--Understanding of the digital landscape and a proven interest in new creative application and social platform developments
--Creative curiosity and personal initiative to maximize opportunities in growing the university’s national brand reputation
--Experience in use of social media to promote a business or organization and thorough knowledge of all platforms
--Ability to adhere to branding visual and verbal identity standards
--Strong ability to sense and identify issues and suggest solutions

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

- Regularly involves lifting, bending or other physical exertion
- Often exposed to heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, etc.
- Frequent shifts in work priority: interruptions requiring immediate attention; unusual pressure due to accountability for success and project completion
- Frequently requires standing, walking, sitting, reaching, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands
- Ability to see information in print and/or electronically, and ability to distinguish colors
- Required work outside the standard 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. schedule
