This position provides support to the research program and Pontotoc Ridge-Flatwoods Branch operations including assisting in farm production operations and equipment and facilities maintenance.

Employees hired into Intermittent positions are limited to working no more than 720 hours per fiscal year.

Salary Grade:  UC

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following examples are intended as illustrations only of the various types of duties assigned in positions allocated to this classification. The absence of specific statements of duties does not exclude those tasks from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment of the position.
1. Assist staff in field preparation such as land prep, flagging, and marking fields for various research experiments involving crop production of sweetpotato, corn, cotton, and soybean.
2. Cutting and planting sweetpotato slips in hot and humid environments.
3. Collecting field data from various field crops as instructed by staff.
4. Work in greenhouses such as cutting sweetpotato slips, removing soil from beds, and properly cleaning greenhouse to ensure no contamination from viruses and pests.
5. Mowing, weed eating, and properly maintaining facility grounds and flowerbeds.
6. Perform necessary cleaning duties as instructed, washing vehicles, buildings, sweetpotato boxes, mopping, vacuuming, etc.
7. Lifting items up to 60 lbs. such as bags of soil, fertilizer, boxes of sweetpotato slips and sweetpotatoes, etc.
8. Performs related duties as assigned.
9. Must have a valid driver’s license.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school education or GED.

Must have a valid driver’s license.
