Performs and/or oversees a variety of support services for migrant families, including in-home visits, organizing and facilitating community events, organizing quarterly meetings with relevant topics, planning activities, ordering food, creating flyers, recordkeeping, create surveys, and/or specified information-gathering projects and tasks. Coordinates and facilitates program functions, and/or special events, as appropriate.

Department Profile:

The Mississippi Migrant Education Program provides state-wide supplemental education to qualifying migrant students (birth-21). We are a small but effective team with a common goal – to serve the migrant community. The Program Coordinator will work closely alongside the Director and Educational Services Coordinator to plan, implement, and document as needed. We are looking for someone with a passion to help the migrant community, who is energetic and optimistic, flexible, innovative, and who works well independently and with a team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Oversees and/or performs a range of diverse administrative activities; serves as a central point of liaison with external constituencies in the resolution of a variety of day-to-day matters concerning migrant education.
2. Assists in administrative problem solving, program/project planning, development, and execution of stated goals and objectives.
3. Researches information, compiles statistics, and gathers and computes various data reports, provides summaries of events, and replies to inquiries.
4. Provides and/or oversees support activities for the unit such as answering telephones, assisting and resolving problems and inquiries of families, reviewing and controlling incoming and outgoing correspondence, and following up on operational commitments.
5. Schedules appointments and maintains calendars; schedules, coordinates, and facilitates meetings, facilities usage, events, and/or travel arrangements, as required.
6. Establishes, updates, and maintains files, inventories, and records; implements and maintains data management systems, as required.
7. Leads and guides the work of lower-level staff.
8. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
9. Collaborates with the Educational Services Coordinator and Director to develop plans and assist with educational services when needed.
10. Travels to the homes of migrant families to meet families in-person and establish a relationship with the community.
11. Makes requests on behalf of the Migrant Service Center for donations and/or discounted prices.
12. Manages a strict budget set by the Director.
13. Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelors Degree - Focus: Related appropriate discipline

Experience (yrs.): 1 year (scheduling / office setting)

Substitution allowed:
Any equivalent combination of related experience and/or education approved by the Department of Human Resources Management.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bilingual Spanish/English
Event Planning Experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software packages.
• The applicant should be adaptable, observant to details, and creative.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

• Work is performed in a home interior/office work environment.
• No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
• No or very limited physical effort required.
