The Swalm School of Chemical Engineering at Mississippi State University (MSU) invites applications for a tenure-system faculty position under the supervision of the Director of the Swalm School of Chemical Engineering. This position will serve as a professional faculty member and specific activities include teaching, research, service, and advising students in the Chemical Engineering program.

Salary Grade:  UC

For salary grade UC, these positions are "Unclassified" and salary ranges are determined by the hiring department.

Department Profile:

The Swalm School of Chemical Engineering comprises 15 faculty positions serving the chemical and petroleum engineering bachelor’s degree programs, with approximately 300 graduate and undergraduate students. The Chemical Engineering (CHE) program offer degrees at the BS, MS, and PhD levels. The School Faculty in the department engage in instruction and perform cutting-edge research in a variety of areas including experimental catalysis, computational modeling, polymers, data analysis, reservoir engineering, separations, microfluidics, energy systems, and environmental remediation. Shared research facilities are available across campus for carrying out state-of-the-art experimental and computational studies in chemical engineering and related disciplines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following examples are illustrations of the various types of duties assigned to this position. The absence of specific statements of duties not exclude duties from the position if the work is a logical assignment of the position.
1. Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the School of Chemical Engineering.
2. Responsible for establishing an externally funded research program.
3. Serve as an academic advisor to graduate and undergraduate students.
4. Supervise research of graduate students.
5. Write and submit proposals to prospective sponsors.
6. Engage in scholarly activities resulting in journal and conference papers.
7. Participate in cross-functional research initiative that require coordination and collaboration among research groups, departments, and research centers.
8. Serve as an active member of the technical community and participate in the activities of professional and/or technical societies.
9. Pursue scholarly and professional activities that will keep him/her at the leading edge in their field.
10. Provide leadership and service for school, college, and university.

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and an earned PhD in any area of Chemical Engineering or a closely related discipline by the start date.

Level of appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

The successful candidate will be expected to develop a sustainable, externally funded, and internationally recognized research program; contribute significantly to their discipline through scholarly work; demonstrate effective teaching and mentorship of both undergraduate and graduate students; participate in institutional and professional service; and support the university’s mission. Candidates are encouraged to discuss how their research could have an impact and complement the existing strengths within the department.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Other qualifications include strong leadership and interpersonal skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, and an ability to work in a collaborative research environment. Successful candidates will be appointed to an academic-year position in the tenure system, with tenure, if appropriate. Successful candidates are expected to elevate the reputation of MSU through their professional activities.
