The College of Veterinary Medicine, Mississippi State University, invites applications for a resident position in veterinary clinical pathology. The position is in the Department of Pathobiology and Population Medicine and the Diagnostic Laboratory Services (DLS), which is part of the Mississippi Veterinary Research and Diagnostic Laboratory System. This position will be a 3-year residency training program that will begin on July 16, 2026.

Salary Grade:  12

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

This post-DVM training program will prepare the candidate to successfully complete the certifying examination of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists. This residency is a three-year position, renewable on an annual basis, assuming satisfactory performance. The resident will work closely with board certified clinical pathologists at MSU-CVM. Residency training will emphasize diagnostic cytology, hematology, clinical chemistry, hemostasis, and laboratory quality management. It will also include time on the surgical biopsy service. The resident will participate in the diagnostic service, teaching of veterinary students, journal club, rounds, seminars, and will be encouraged to attend and present at national meetings and write manuscripts for publication. The caseload is diverse, and diagnostic investigation is strongly supported. The Resident will participate in teaching veterinary students in both didactic and clinical settings.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications include a DVM or equivalent degree and the ability to attain licensure in the State of Mississippi. Licensure in Mississippi requires having successfully passed the NAVLE exam. For students that have not attended an AVMA accredited veterinary school, successful completion of the PAVE program (Program for the Assessment of Veterinary Education Equivalence) or the ECFVG (Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates) certification program is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially related to client service.
Must be capable of working in a team environment comprised of faculty, doctors, staff, and students to provide veterinary care of patients and aid in the instruction of veterinary students and veterinary technology students.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands. Job requires standing, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
