The principal function of the postdoc is to contribute to configuring a high-resolution ocean-biogeochemical model for the South Florida region, and use this model to simulate and analyze past and projected regional oceanographic patterns, with an especial focus in five marine ecosystem stressors: ocean acidification, hypoxia, harmful algal blooms (HABs), warming, and eutrophication. The outputs of the ocean-biogeochemical model will be used to characterize stressors impacts on relevant coastal species from the South Florida Shelf and Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary (FKNMS). The postdoc will be based at the NOAA’s Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML) in Miami, Florida. She/he will be part of a multidisciplinary team, which includes researchers at NOAA, Mississippi State University, University of Miami, University of South Florida, Virginia Institute of Marine Sciences, Fish and Wildlife Research Institute, and Southeast Coastal Ocean Observing Regional Association.

Salary Grade:  UC

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties include but are not limited to:
• Configure a regional ocean-biogeochemical model for the South Florida region
• Conduct numerical model experiments
• Analyze and describe simulated patterns
• Participate in regular team meetings
• Present research results in scientific conferences and workshops
• Submit manuscripts to peer-reviewed journals

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in oceanography or a related field.

ABDs or degree pending considered (all but DISS):

No

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in regional ocean modeling.
Background in physical oceanography, biological oceanography, or marine biogeochemistry.
Knowledge in data science programming.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Ability to navigate stairs and lift objects up to 50 pounds.
