Post-Doctoral Research Associates at the Institute for Clean Energy Technology (ICET) hold full-time non-tenure track positions to assist in the conduct of research and development of task relating to an externally funded program. The Post-Doctoral Research Associate, an externally-funded professional, reports to a project investigator. These positions are contingent on the availability of funding.

Salary Grade:  UC

Department Profile:

The Institute for Clean Energy Technology (ICET) at Mississippi State University is an interdisciplinary center comprised of research, and engineering design and development for industry and government partners. Our overall effort is focused on evaluation of materials and components of vital safety systems used throughout the nuclear complex.

Area of Specialization:

Aerosol measurement techniques and air filtration analysis. Analytical and physical properties methods, including but not limited to Thermogravimetric Analysis, Tensile Strength, Electron Microscopy, Water Repellency, and Resistance and Penetrat

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be expected to become familiar with the research activities at ICET. The individual filling this position will function at the professional research level and will collaborate with researchers involved in the nuclear-grade HEPA filter research. The individual will be responsible for performing literature reviews, writing background documentation, finding gaps in research areas, and presenting research proposals. In addition, this individual may be responsible for collecting, researching, and analyzing available data and literature for inclusion in research related activities. This induvial must have the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
All research activities are subject to stringent quality control. The individual filling this position will receive training in nuclear quality assurance requirements.
Essential duties and responsibilities include:
• Developing and maintaining technical familiarity in the fields of nuclear filtration, ventilation, robotics, radiation detection, sensors, systems integration, test protocols and procedures, and other key technical areas of ICET’s research
• Researching, writing, and editing a variety of technical materials such as proposals, white papers, technical and contractual reports, and other written deliverables
• Ensuring that key messages and critical issues are accurately and consistently presented across documents
• Collaborating with the Director, staff, and associated faculty of ICET on information and materials for assigned projects
• Producing quality written pieces that are informative and engaging
• Ensuring accuracy of technical documents
• Interacting in a collaborative manner with other team members to accomplish organizational goals
• Performing work under best practices guidelines
• Performing related duties as required

Minimum Qualifications:

A PhD in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in air filtration and aerosol measurements techniques, and/or analytical and physical properties analysis.
Technical/scientific writing, editing, and publications experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Strong attention to detail and communication skills are required
• Ability to interact effectively with other professionals
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to comprehend basic scientific concepts related to ICET research projects for the purpose of writing and editing
• Detail oriented
• Ability to coordinate multiple projects and shift priorities frequently
• Ability to work independently and mange and prioritize own workload
• Ability to thoughtfully compile and decipher information to create engaging technical reports

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Externally imposed deadlines that are set and revised beyond one’s control. Interruptions influence priorities. It is often difficult to anticipate the nature or volume of work with certainty beyond a few days. Meeting of deadlines and coordination of unrelated activities are key to the position. Occasional exposure to demands and pressure from persons other than the immediate supervisor can be expected. Conflict-resolution or similar interactions involving emotional issues or stress may be experienced
