Position Function:
The primary function of this position is to support a variety of routine and specialized Extension projects in the PLACE:SLR program supporting coastal climate resilience and coastal restoration. This position is tentatively funded for 2 years but may be extended pending availability of funds.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The selected applicant will become part of the Program for Local Adaptation to Climate Effects: Sea Level Rise extension (PLACE:SLR) program and participate in a variety of program activities. The position will be based at the MSU Coastal Research and Extension Center in Biloxi, MS, but will travel between coastal Mississippi, Alabama, and Northwest Florida for activities on an at-least monthly basis. The primary purpose of this position is to conduct extension, outreach, and applied research activities related to the translation of sea-level rise and related climate resilience information for coastal decision-making.
This position will assist in the design and implementation of multiple stakeholder engagement activities with the goal of setting up a community of practice between marsh model producers and potential end users. Specific activities will include collaborating with the Project Team, modelers, land managers, and other potential end-users to tackle the current barriers to marsh model use and improve the utilization of application outputs for decision making; assisting with the design and implementation of engagement activities (both in-person and virtual) to assess model updates; assisting with the development of model communication materials; supporting meeting facilitation; participating in project planning calls; assisting with other project/programs with PLACE:SLR; and other duties as assigned. Travel for the activities described above as well as conferences or meetings will be necessary. PLACE:SLR also has an explicit focus on fostering an inclusive culture that welcomes a diverse array of employees, partners, end-users, and stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in curriculum appropriate for the field of assignment (ecology, climate science, marine science, etc). Experience in customer service or other work experience with interaction with clients or the public.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Typing and computer skills (word processing and spreadsheets)
* Ability to juggle multiple tasks and prioritize multiple demands
* Strong oral and written communication skills
* Knowledge and skills in using Microsoft Office Suites especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint; knowledge and skills in document/project management/sharing platforms (e.g. Google Drive, Basecamp, etc.)
* Knowledge and skills in webinar software (WebEx, GoToMeeting, Zoom, etc.)
* Ability to collaborate with a diverse group of partners
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
* Ability to work in extreme weather conditions
* Ability to work long, often irregular, hours, including occasional nights and weekends
* Requires routine travel, including some overnight trips
