Position Function:
The position is a nine-month, tenure-track bridge position at the Assistant Professor level. The candidate is expected to: 1) perform research in experimental low-energy nuclear physics or nuclear astrophysics at the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB), helping enhance and broaden the research activities of the low-energy nuclear physics group. 2) Keep up the department's tradition of excellence in sponsored research involving students, teaching, and service. 3) Contribute to the department's mission of maintaining a respectful environment, free from harassment while striving to ensure equal opportunity for all in in research, teaching, and/or service.

Department Profile:
The Department of Physics & Astronomy, with approximately 35 undergraduates and 45 graduate students, forms a critical component of science and technology education and research across a thriving and entrepreneurial campus that values and supports interdisciplinary and collaborative studies and transformative research. MSU is a land-grant university with an enrollment of about 22,500 students. The Department of Physics & Astronomy offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees. Applicants are expected to continue the departmental tradition of excellence in sponsored research involving students, in teaching, and in service. Local resources include the High Performance Computing Collaboratory, the Institute of Imaging and Analytical Technologies, and the Institute for Clean Energy Technology.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* The position will have a strong emphasis in establishing and maintaining an independent research program in experimental nuclear physics in a university environment while utilizing the state-of-the-art facility at FRIB.
* Developing a substantial record of publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
* Seek to acquire external funding for the research program at FRIB.
* Have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching physics at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
* Serve as advisor or co-advisor to graduate and undergraduate students in research activities.
* Contribute to the service of the unit, university, and/or profession.
* Commit to maintaining a harassment-free respectful environment in research, teaching, and service, that provides equal opportunity for all.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Ph.D in experimental nuclear physics or a closely related area.
*Knowledge of nuclear physics, and the ability to perform nuclear physics experimental research by utilizing the state-of-the-art facility at FRIB.
Preferred Qualifications:
*At least one year of postdoctoral experience in experimental nuclear physics research at FRIB.
*Leading ongoing and planned nuclear physics experiments at FRIB.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The ability to:
* Teach at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
* Engage and supervise students in research projects.
* Initiate and lead an independent research program, prepare, and submit grant/contract proposals to fund projects/graduate students, and promote an inclusive, diverse, and equitable environments in research, teaching, and service endeavors.
