This position is intended for youth with an interest in agriculture, natural resources, and related fields. The employee will gain practical experience through working closely with professionals in a scientific discipline.

Employees hired into Intermittent positions are limited to working no more than 720 hours per fiscal year.

Salary Grade:  UC

Please see Staff Compensation Structure or Skilled Crafts and Service Maintenance Compensation Schedule for salary ranges.  For salary grade UC, these positions are "Unclassified" and salary ranges are determined by the hiring department.

Department Profile:

Youth will learn about agriculture, natural resources, and related fields through assisting research and Extension activities at Delta Research and Extension Center in Stoneville, MS, or at County Extension Offices within the Delta region.

Area of Specialization:

Agriculture and natural resources.

Anticipated Appointment Date:

March 2024. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The employee will assist research and Extension activities as directed by the supervisor. Tasks may include but are not limited to:

• Conducting and maintaining experiments in field, greenhouse, and laboratory settings.
• Collecting and processing samples.
• Analyzing data and preparing presentations.
• Supporting Extension events and developing multimedia resources.
• Operating and managing equipment and supplies used in research experiments and Extension programs; and
• Performing other relevant duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Applicants must be between ages 16-25; if under 18, written permission from school administration (if during school hours) and from a parent/guardian is required.
• Applicants must consistently follow instructions, work responsibly, and be trustworthy.
• Applicants must be interested in agriculture, natural resources, and related fields.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

The specific work schedule will depend on the age of the employee, the time of year (during/outside school year), and whether this employment will be part of a work-based learning program at a school/college. The employee will be limited to working no more than 720 hours per fiscal year (July 1-June 30).

The employee will work in non-hazardous conditions. Physical requirements will vary by supervisor.
