Manager of Instructional Media Technology is a position under the administrative supervision of the Director of Information Technology Infrastructure. The Instructional Media Technology unit within Information Technology Infrastructure is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and support of Audio/Video solutions and components in instructional spaces and conference/huddle rooms, along with support of digital signage equipment across MSU campuses.

Specific responsibilities of the Manager of Instructional Media Technology include supervision of Instructional Media Technology personnel as well as active participation in the activities and functions of the unit. The manager will be expected to actively work with the Director of Information Technology Infrastructure, other ITS managers, and personnel to plan, implement, maintain, and support the instructional media technology infrastructure of the University.

Employees hired into Intermittent positions are limited to working no more than 720 hours per fiscal year.

Salary Grade:  18

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Plan, supervise, and manage the activities and personnel of the Instructional Media Technology unit.
2. Participate in strategic planning of the instructional media technology direction of MSU.
3. Manage and coordinate largescale audio/video projects to support and enhance instructional A/V environments.
4. Work with contractors, architects, and MSU officials to direct the purchase, installation, and configuration of A/V components in various environments.
5. Support MSU personnel in the use of A/V equipment in instructional spaces supported by ITS and coordinate the repair or replacement of failed components as needed.
6. Direct, develop, and maintain custom A/V control applications, utilities, and scripts.
7. Evaluate, test, and recommend A/V hardware and software.
8. Stay abreast of evolving Audio/Visual technology industry issues, particularly as they relate to the areas of responsibility for classroom instructional media technology.
9. Monitor trends in instructional classroom environments and recommend enhancements and upgrades to A/V equipment as needed.
10. Provide technical support and guidance to the other divisions within Information Technology Services and to the MSU community at large.
11. Meet regularly with Instructional Media Technology staff to discuss current issues and future plans.
12. Regularly interact and coordinate with other Information Technology units to integrate IT resources into instructional media technology A/V environments.
13. Perform other duties as assigned.

Full supervisory responsibility for other employees is a major responsibility and includes training, evaluating, and making or recommending pay, promotion, or other employment decisions.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a related field.

May substitute appropriate years of experience in a technical or A/V related field.

Seven years of Experience in a medium to large enterprise information technology environment
Five years of Experience with design, installation, and administration of complex audio/visual projects

Preferred Qualifications:

• Proficiency in one or more high-level programming languages.
• Experience with installation and support of Windows and Macintosh based software.
• Experience with and understanding of complex Ethernet networks.
• Experience with large procurements of equipment and vendor contracts.
• Experience with design and programming of complex A/V control systems.
• Experience with supporting a distributed digital signage management system.
• Experience managing technical staff.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

1. Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
2. Ability to visit construction sites and non-ADA accessible work areas is required.
3. Job occasionally requires standing, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
4. Vision requirements: ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
5. Sitting: required to be able to sit for long periods of time, as typical days will involve sitting at computer consoles or sitting in meetings.
6. Dexterity and visual acuity: required to be able to use computer screens and keyboards and manipulate small devices and parts.
7. Hearing requirements: Ability to hear and respond to telephone conversations.
