Position Function:
This position is responsible for applying pesticides to designated turf areas of campus to control weeds, insects and diseases.
Employees hired into Intermittent positions are limited to working no more than 720 hours per fiscal year.
Salary Grade: 12

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Apply herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides to assigned turf areas.
2. Assist with mowing, fertilizing, and aerifying turf or any other maintenance practice in areas as requested by supervisor.
3. Calibrate sprayers and spreaders to determine the amount of pesticides per acre to be used.
4. Use portable hand-spray equipment to spray around buildings, ditches, fences, and parking lots.
5. Distributes granulated fertilizers and pesticides to turf areas using spreader.
6. Maintain inventory of pesticides.
7. Assist with clean-up of campus after all home football games and events as needed.
8. Maintain accurate time records and materials used.
9. Assist Landscape Management and Ornamental Management crews during off season as requested.
10. Must be available to work during ice storms, windstorms, and other emergencies to assist with clean-up and repairs.
11. Operate and perform routine maintenance to equipment.
12. Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High School or Equivalent
Experience: 1 year with a focus in lawn and ornamental services
Valid Driver's License required
In the process of or the ability to obtain pesticide applicator license
Preferred Qualifications:
Current pesticide applicator's license
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Strong attention to detail.
2. Operate efficiently and safely at all times.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Regularly involves lifting, bending or other physical exertion. Often exposed to one or more elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, etc.
Occasional-Routine deadlines; usually adequate lead time; variance in work volume seasonal and predictable; priorities can be anticipated; some interruptions are present; travel or other inconveniences have advance notice; involves occasional exposure to demands and pressures from persons other than immediate supervisor.
Job frequently requires standing, walking, reaching, climbing or balancing, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
