The Mississippi State University Office of Public Affairs operates within the university’s Division of Strategic Communications. The office includes strategic marketing/branding, university news, graphic design and photography units; the University Television Center and WMSV campus radio station.

Salary Grade:  14

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

--Aid in the development and deployment of comprehensive university marketing plans in line with the MSU brand
--Advise, consult on, and create campuswide social media strategies, digital and electronic media campaigns and university web content, particularly for top-level pages, and maintain a system for timely completion
--Ensure social media content is deployed according to an agreed on schedule
--Supervise the overall performance of the Hub review platform, ensuring quality of external marketing and advertising and adherence to brand guidelines
--Generate the monthly Leadership Matters e-newsletter for employees and alumni
--Manage vendor relationships and purchase of media in conjunction with marketing plans, campaigns
--Perform other duties such as event coordination related to the brand and responding to inquiries

Minimum Qualifications:

--Bachelor’s degree in broadcast or digital journalism; marketing; communication; public relations or related field.
--Minimum 2 years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

--Experience in higher education setting
--Demonstrated work in writing and managing production of social/digital media content
--Photography and video production skills
--Ability to work both in a team setting and independently

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

--Expertise in researching, gathering and executing content for social/digital platforms
--Ability to work on multiple assignments and projects at one time while meeting important deadlines
--Self-motivated and detail oriented
--Excellent written and verbal skills
--Excellent skills in writing, proofreading, and editing digital content; software use including the Adobe Suite; and editing video
--Ability to manage competing requests and complex information

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

- Regularly involves lifting, bending or other physical exertion
- Often exposed to heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, etc.
- Frequent shifts in work priority: interruptions requiring immediate attention; unusual pressure due to accountability for success and project completion
- Frequently requires standing, walking, sitting, reaching, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands
- Ability to see information in print and/or electronically, and ability to distinguish colors
- Required work outside the standard 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. schedule
