The appointment is 100% research under the academic supervision of Dr. Jessica Drewry. The successful candidate will collaborate on a USDA sponsored project on modeling transport phenomena in the hatchery environment to reduce host/pathogen interactions.

Department Profile:

ABE has 18 on-campus faculty members engaged in teaching, research, and extension, as well as several other faculty members at MSU-affiliated research centers and adjuncts employed elsewhere. The department is co-administered by the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the Bagley College of Engineering, and it offers undergraduate (B.S.) and graduate (M.S. and Ph.D.) degrees in three distinct program areas: Biomedical Engineering and Biosystems Engineering, which are both accredited by ABET, and Agricultural Engineering Technology and Business. Within these programs, the department has over 400 undergraduates and 40 graduate students. The J. Charles Lee Agricultural and Biological Engineering Building includes more than 6,000 square feet of state-of-the-art instructional and research facilities, and it includes separate labs for sterile tissue culture, biomechanical testing, environmental and agricultural simulation or modeling studies, electronic/robotic design fabrication and testing, GPS/GIS, renewable bioenergy, and student computing resources. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties will include data acquisition system development, experimental design and data collection, assisting with development of computational fluid dynamics models, collaboration with other team members, drafting publications, and other tasks within the scope of the project as assigned. The project will require occasional trips to experimental site and travel to scientific meetings.

Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Biosystems or Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other closely related field. Experience in development of data acquisition systems and experimental data collection.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with computational fluid dynamics modeling and first-authored publication(s) in the peer-reviewed literature.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

The successful candidate must have experience with data acquisition systems and good oral and written communication skills.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Occasional field work in commercial hatchery facilities required.
