Mississippi State University is seeking a Program Manager at their CAVS Extension office located in Canton, MS. This position is responsible for managing program operations and marketing of technical services and training. The position has a significant influence on the center’s ability to generate external revenue while maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction.

Salary Grade:  15

Department Profile:

The Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems Extension (CAVS-E), headquartered in Canton, MS, maintains a strong interaction with industry and is focused on providing engineering services to manufacturing-based industries. Major activities include teaching professional development workshops, conducting on-site projects and technology transfer. The center's ultimate objective is to assist the state in technology based economic development through projects and training with MS companies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The individual serves under the general direction of the Director of CAVS-Extension located in Canton, MS. The following describes the general duties and responsibilities required of the position.

1. Increase the visibility of the Center and its offerings to key constituencies (e.g. engineers, managers, human resource professionals, economic developers, etc.)
2. Develop and enhance relationships with potential clients including private industry, state, and federal agencies.
3. Manage the Center’s training support operations including coordination with the instructors and scheduling of workshops.
4. Manage the activities related to tracking and reporting of training and projects, based on interaction with the Center’s technical staff.
5. Manage the invoice tracking system, which is critical to the Center’s revenue flow from projects and workshops.
6. Manage activities involving the marketing of the center capabilities with a particular focus on the marketing of training services to external entities (e.g. private companies, stage agencies, public companies). This includes publicizing professional development offerings, conferences, and related promotional items, such as printed materials (e.g. flyers, posters, and displays), electronic communications (e.g. website, social media, email), and the maintaining of the Center’s internal email marketing database.
7. Support attendance at various events that provide visibility to the Center.
8. Manage internal department property control activities.
9. Provide management and oversight of departmental purchases.
10. Provide oversight to the project coordinator in support of their training related duties.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and three years of professional work experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Strong customer service skills and the ability to interact effectively to tactfully resolve conflicts that can arise when interacting with a wide variety of people where short lead times and inherent scheduling conflicts may occur.
2. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills as well as the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
3. Ability to work within broad objectives, thus requiring minimal supervision.
4. Experience with Microsoft office suite (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe software.
5. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
6. Strong interpersonal skills and a willingness to work with a diverse group of people.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

1. Occasional and/or light lifting required.
2. Routine deadlines, usually sufficient lead time; variance in work volume predictable, priorities can be anticipated; some interruptions are present; involves occasional exposure to demands and pressures from persons other than immediate supervisor.
