The College of Veterinary Medicine's Department of Comparative Biomedical Sciences is searching for an Assistant Research Professor for Environmental Toxicology.

Salary Grade:  UC

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Research Assistant Professor is expected to study the toxicity of important toxicants that can be contacted by people or animals in the environment, especially those that could be chemical threat agents or pesticides. The research conducted would involve animal experimentation with techniques related to biochemistry, analytical chemistry and animal observation, and requires an overall understanding of the likely mechanisms by which these toxicants exert their effects. Also, development of therapies to reverse the effects of these toxicants should be studied. This position is 100% research and will be dependent on successfully obtaining external funding in grants or contracts, applications for which had major input from the Research Assistant Professor. The main activities will be seeking relevant funding opportunities and applying for these grants or contracts, performing research, writing relevant reports documenting research progress to the funding source, publishing the research results in peer-reviewed journals, and presenting this research at scientific meetings.

Minimum Qualifications:

The candidate must have a PhD in toxicology or a related field, with research experience in a variety of toxicological and biochemical methods, at least two years of post-doctoral research experience, and a strong track record of publishing in quality peer-reviewed journals and in applying for federal grants.
