Reporting to the Associate Dean for Archives & Special Collections, this professional staff position arranges and describes archival material in the Frank and Virginia Williams Collection of Lincolniana at MSU Libraries in additional to other archival collections once the Williams Collection is fully processed.

Salary Grade:  14

Department Profile:

The Mississippi State University Library system is comprised of six libraries that include the Mitchell Memorial Library, Bob and Kathy Luke Architecture, Art and Design Library, College of Veterinary Medicine Library, Phil Hardin Foundation Libraries on the Meridian Campus, and Gertrude C. Ford Foundation Library in Jackson, MS. The Mitchell Memorial Library houses the Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Library and the Frank and Virginia Williams Collection of Lincolniana. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Performs preliminary and full processing of newly acquired and legacy archival collections.
2. Collaborates with the Williams Chair for Lincolniana on public outreach, engagement and other duties as needed.
3. Researches historical and biographical information relevant to the Lincoln collection.
4. Oversee graduate and undergraduate assistants and interns.
5. Creates finding aids utilizing knowledge of standards including Cataloging Cultural Objects, Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS), EAD, MARC, LCSH, LNAF, and other appropriate thesauri and authority lists used for indexing archival descriptions.
6. Revises, edits, corrects, and digitally publishes legacy finding aids and other collection data.
7. Assists in the implementation of archival management software.
8. Identifies and carries out rehousing and preservation treatments as needed.
9. Interprets and enforces library policies for the security and administration of the collections.
10. Serves as part of the team for the reading room desk, Grant Presidential Library front desk, and assists with reference as needed.
11. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience with archival processing.
- Previous experience with ArchivesSpace and Collections Space software platform.
- Advanced degree in library and information studies, history, or a related field.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

- Attention to detail.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

- Job frequently requires standing, walking, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically, ability to distinguish colors.
- Routine deadlines; usually sufficient lead time; variance in work volume seasonal and predictable; priorities can be anticipated; some interruptions are present; involves occasional exposure to demands and pressures from persons other than immediate supervisor.
