Position Function:

To assist a pharmacist in the technical aspects of dispensing pharmaceuticals and administrative operations of the pharmacy unit.

Salary Grade:  10

Please see Staff Compensation Structure or Skilled Crafts and Service Maintenance Compensation Schedule for salary ranges.  For salary grade UC, these positions are "Unclassified" and salary ranges are determined by the hiring department.

Anticipated Appointment Date:

October 2024. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Calculates doses, mixes, and dispenses prescribed medicines and pharmaceutical preparations in absence of or under supervision of pharmacist.
2. Compounds preparations according to prescriptions issued by the medical staff.
3. Pours, weighs, or measures dosages and grinds, heats, filters, or dissolves and mixes liquid or soluble drugs and chemicals.
4. Labels drugs, chemicals and other pharmaceutical preparations as directed by pharmacists.
5. Procures, stores, and issues pharmaceutical materials and supplies.
6. Maintains files and records and submits required pharmacy reports.
7. Issues controlled and uncontrolled substances.
8. Assists in drug product selection based on knowledge of availability and appropriateness of product.
9. Receives and places supplies in stock.
10. Monitors expenditures of pharmacy and assists in the budgeting process.
11. Provides on-call emergency services in absence of upon request of the pharmacist.
12. Performs related duties as assigned.

Supervision Received and Given
Receives supervision from a Pharmacist. Employees in this position normally have no supervisory responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in a related field or four years of related experience.

Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience approved by the Department of Human Resources Management.

Preferred Qualifications:

Post-secondary training in chemistry

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to follow instructions.
Knowledge of pharmacy operations.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
No or very limited physical effort required.
