Position Function:
This position is responsible for leading the College of Veterinary Medicine-Information Technology (CVM-IT) team. CVM-IT areas of activities include a broad spectrum of information technology. These areas include software/hardware support on desktop computers, software/hardware support on servers (physical and virtual), support for the hospital and laboratory information system with a web interface and oracle database administration, designing data network infrastructure needs, audio-video technology classroom design and installation and support, support cloud software and backups, planning short/medium/long term IT projects and ensure proper communication is constant with MSU Central IT and CVM Administration. Locations covered under CVM-IT support are the CVM (Starkville Campus), Animal Emergency and Referral Center (AERC-Flowood,MS), Mississippi Veterinary Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (MVRDL-Pearl, MS), Aquatic Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (ARDL-Stoneville), and the Gulf Coast Aquatic Health Laboratory (Gulfport, MS).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Manage and provide leadership to the CVM-IT team.
• Work closely with CVM administration, faculty, staff and students to determine the IT needs for the college and its facilities/offices.
• Participate in planning and development activities for the purpose of creating both short and long-term information technology plans and strategies.
• Establish operational priorities for CVM-IT and translate those priorities into appropriate staff organization and task assignments.
• Provide financial oversight, resource management and quality assurance for projects and operations undertaken by CVM-IT.
• Manage new information systems software, hardware, and the interaction between new and existing systems.
• Promote the adoption of AI technologies.
• Help foster and maintain a stable, secure, and cost-effective information technology environment.
• Recommend and implement related policies and procedures related to the use of information technology at the college.
• Establish and maintain appropriate relationships with vendors, state agencies, MSU Central IT, and other external entities.
• Collaborate with other IT professionals to develop IT standards, to identify IT directions, and to enhance IT solutions for higher education and the veterinary educational field.
• Maintain and negotiate college-specific software licenses, support, and service contracts for the college.
• Investigate and make recommendations to the CVM administration for new systems and technologies to support learning, research, and service missions of the college.
• Assist CVM leaders in understanding the complexities and challenges of delivering IT systems and services.
• Work with Central IT on certain projects to ensure the missions of the CVM and University are aligned.
• Supervise all aspects of personnel action for CVM-IT including filling of vacant positions, performance reviews and staff assignments. Support career and professional development activities of CVM-IT staff.
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's Degree - Business Information Systems, Business Administration, or related field.
Experience: Eight (8) years of progressively more responsible experience in
information technology, 4 years of which involve managing complex projects in a university, medical or large enterprise environment.

Supervisory experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated understanding of veterinary medical information technology. Proven ability to assume responsibility for supporting multiple systems.
Proven ability to effectively lead a highly technical software development staff. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of relevant information systems hardware and software technologies including database, Web, operating system, security, and networking. Working knowledge of legislative and regulatory issues affecting information technology as they relate to higher education.
Demonstrated personal initiative and professionalism including excellent interpersonal, organizational, and oral/written communication skills.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
1. Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
2. This position requires the ability to manipulate a variety of office equipment, including occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
3. Job frequently requires sitting, reaching, talking, listening, and handling objects and IT hardware with hands.
4. Job frequently requires standing, walking, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling.
5. Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and electronically.
