Position Function:
Tenure-track faculty position in Economics at the Assistant Professor level beginning August 16, 2025. Position has teaching, research, and service responsibilities. Expected research activity must result in publications with nationally recognized and refereed journals and should support the mission of the Department of Finance and Economics and the College of Business.

Department Profile:
The Department of Finance and Economics supports the missions of the College of Business and Mississippi State University by integrating the fields of Economics and Finance in order to (1) prepare and mentor students for successful academic and professional careers; (2) engage in high-quality scholarly activity which advances knowledge and supports the economic development of Mississippi; (3) recruit, develop, and retain nationally-recognized faculty; and (4) serve the university, state, region, and nation. The department is responsible for instruction leading to Bachelor of Business Administration degrees (B.B.A.) with majors in Business Economics and Finance, as well as, the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree with a major in Economics for the College of Arts and Sciences. The department also sponsors minors in Business Economics, Finance, and Risk Management and Insurance. Graduate program offered by the department include the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Finance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Teaching responsibilities include both undergraduate and graduate courses in Economics and applied areas of expertise with the standard course load as two courses per semester. All fields of specialization in Economics will be considered. Expected research activity must result in publications within nationally recognized and refereed journals. Other responsibilities include routine departmental, college, and university service functions.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Ph.D. in Economics is required.
2. All applicants must demonstrate teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
3. Past success or potential to publish in high-quality peer reviewed journals
4. Effective written and oral communication skills.
5. ABD candidates will be considered but must be able to give strong assurance of completing the Ph.D. prior to August 1, 2025.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Preference will be given to applicants capable of teaching graduate microeconomics.
2. Preference will be given to applicants with the ability to teach doctoral-level courses, participate actively on doctoral dissertation committees, and perform other duties for tenure-track faculty in a research-oriented department.

1. Commitment to high quality teaching and research;
2. Strong communication skills including writing and public speaking;
3. Ability to work effectively with students in a classroom environment;
4. Ability to supervise graduate student research projects and dissertations;
5. Willingness to serve on the Department, College, and University committees; and,
6. Intra personal skills necessary to work effectively with students and colleagues in a multidisciplinary department.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Classroom setting ranges from 30 - 250 student seating capacity with assigned office hours for student conferences and consultations along with departmental, college, and university service functions.
