Mississippi State University's College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a Residency in Large Animal Surgery.

Salary Grade:  12

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will join the Large Animal Medicine and Surgery Service in the Pathobiology and Population Medicine Department to provide clinical care in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and teach professional and technical students in the clinic and didactic curriculum. Residents will serve under the supervision of Diplomats of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons to learn the art and science of surgery and related disciplines of medicine, radiology, anesthesiology, and pathology. The resident is expected to satisfy training criteria for board certification by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, including completion of a research or clinical investigation, oral presentations, maintenance of a surgery log, attendance at required resident conference, and publication of at least one first-author manuscript. A certificate of residency training is presented after successful completion of the 3 year program. Completion of a concurrent Master's Degree program is expected.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must have a DVM (or equivalent degree), be eligible to receive veterinary license in Mississippi, and have completed internship (or equivalent postgraduate experience).

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in general or academic veterinary practice is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Good interpersonal skills, a strong work ethic, and the ability to provide timely, compassionate care to clients and patients. Academic ability to complete the required research project and produce a first-author manuscript for publication, and to successfully complete the requirements for a Master's degree.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands.
Job requires standing, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
