The primary objectives of the program are to train specialists in small animal surgery and to prepare residents for board certification by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. Educational opportunities toward this end include daily case rounds, weekly journal club, weekly textbook reading assignments, monthly hospital-wide morbidity, and mortality rounds, and twice-yearly mock board examinations.
