Position Function:
Directs and coordinates activities of employees engaged in performing laboratory tests to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Also performs duties of Medical Technologist.
Salary Grade: 15

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following examples are intended as illustrations only of the various duties assigned to this position. The absence of specific statements of duties does not exclude those tasks from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment of the position.
1. Performs Supervisory /Administrative Duties
a. Coaches, counsels, and disciplines employees as necessary
b. Ensures new Medical Technologist and Assistants are trained properly
c. Interviews candidates and gives recommendation to hire or not hire to directors
d. Approves time off
e. Writes and conducts performance reviews of lab employees
f. Maintains inventory and orders supplies
g. Maintains computer records
h. Maintains statistical reports
i. Implements new procedures
2. Performs Medical Technologist Duties
a. Trains new Medical Technologist: and Lab Assistants( to perform basic lab tests)
b. Performs controls on instruments daily, and kits at time of lot number change or shipment date change.
c. Calibrates the lab equipment
d. Ensues hazardous waste is disposed of properly
e. Performs standard laboratory tests.
f. Keep accurate daily records
g. Collect and prepare specimens for testing and sending to reference lab
h. Follow quality control procedures
3. Performs Miscellaneous Duties
a. Provides pleasant, prompt service to patients
b. Performs other responsibilities as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology
Registered as Medical Technologist with the American Society of Clinical Pathologist
Two years experience as a Medical Technologist
Excellent verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience beyond the minimum requirement of two years as a Medical Technologist.
Previous experience as a Clinical Laboratory Manager.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Responsible for carrying out broad assignments and tasks under very limited direction.
Knowledge, skills and abilities commensurate with having met the minimum job requirements.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
General office conditions.
Exposure to potentially infectious body fluids
