Position Function:

Provide one-on-one counseling and advice to veterans, service-disabled veteran entrepreneurs, Reservists, National Guard members and transitioning service members interested in starting or expanding a small business. This incumbent will be required to drive and travel to conduct and present the activities of the Veterans Business Outreach Center (VBOC). Work includes preparing reports and forms, and securing session locations.

Salary Grade:  13

Department Profile:

Provide online training to veterans, service disable veterans, reservists, national-guard members and transitioning service members interested in starting a business.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Markets the business and educational services program in assigned service area.
Plans, coordinates, conducts training and counseling sessions (face-to-face, phone and online); required to drive and travel as needed.
Provides assistance to clients as it relates to areas of concerns, identifies needs and available resources.
Consults with a variety of agencies, VBOC offices and SBA Resource Partners to assist clients with obtaining objectives.
Develops and prepares client files.
Maintains records and files.
Performs similar or related duties as assigned by the VBOC's Director

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Business or related field
1 year related experience

Preferred Qualifications:

* Veteran or Veteran Spouse
* Familiarity with the Small Business Administration resource partners, and the Department of Defense Transition Assistance Program (TAP).
* Knowledge of entrepreneurial and venture capital concepts, including experience with the preparation of business plan narratives and financial projections.
* Knowledge of business loan processes, including SBA Guaranteed loan programs.
* Experience with small business and small business programs.
Direct experience owning and operating a business, preferably one with a paryroll.
* Experience and familiarity with Business Model Canvas teaching methodologies.
* Experience using LivePlan to develop business plans.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Computer skills such as word processing, spreadsheet, presentation
Excellent interpersonal skills.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

No unusual physical requirements. Requires limited lifting of files and records and nearly all work is performed in a comfortable indoor facility.
Position may have limited travel.
Frequent external imposed deadlines; set and revised beyond one's control. interruptions influence priorities; difficult to anticipate nature or volume of work with certainty beyond a few days; meeting of deadlines and coordination of unrelated activities are key to position; involves conflict-resolution or similar interactions involving emotional issues or stress on a regular basis.
Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands.
Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
Classes are held as early as 11:00 am Central or as late as 8:30 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This particular opening may teach classes at 12:00 noon, 7:30 pm, or 8:30 pm.
