The Department of Geosciences is in the College of Arts and Sciences, and is composed of 28 faculty members (19 are tenure-track) and 5 full-time staff. The department offers B.S. and M.S. degrees in Geosciences, and a Ph.D. in Earth and Atmospheric Science. There is also a strong distance learning (DL) emphasis that offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees. Currently, there are 478 undergraduate majors (includes 265 DL) and 256 graduate students (includes 185 DL). Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
This position is a 12-month administrative appointment with the expectation that the successful candidate will continue to perform scholarly work. The extent of teaching responsibilities is negotiable. Administrative responsibilities of the department head include budget management, resource allocation, and supervision of staff. They must also have excellent interpersonal and administrative skills, provide effective leadership to the department, serve as an effective liaison between the faculty and administration, and be a strong advocate for the department within and outside the University. This includes working with the College of Arts & Sciences and alumni to attract funds and resources.
Ph.D. in geosciences or a related field, previous administrative experience, a distinguished record of research productivity, teaching credentials, student mentorship and extramural funding, and must also meet the university requirements for appointment as a full professor with tenure.
ABDs or degree pending considered (all but DISS):
Preferred qualifications include knowledge of, or experience with, distance learning course delivery as well as research interests that will strengthen, build, or bridge existing programs in Geosciences.
