The project will investigate the impacts of innovative water and crop management practices on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and yield in paddy rice systems. The project will use chamber method and gas chromatography to quantify CO2, N2O, CH4 emissions from farmers’ fields in the US Mid-South. Organic carbon and available nitrogen trends and dynamics in plant biomass and soil will be quantified using standard chemical procedures. Grain yield and yield components will be measured using standard protocol for paddy rice. The project will also provide GHG emission datasets from various irrigation practices for drill seeded rice system.
