Department Profile:
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is one of eight academic departments in the Bagley College of Engineering. The Department offers ABET-accredited undergraduate programs in ECE. It also offers graduate studies leading to M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering. Programs are offered in Starkville, MS Gulf Coast, and Online campuses. The Department is composed of 614 undergraduates, 131 graduate students (70% PhD seeking), 29 faculty members (including 6 endowed professorships, 4 IEEE Fellows), and 7 staff members. Faculty members have developed a strong research program spanning the areas of computer systems, microelectronics, communications, electromagnetics, signal processing, machine learning, remote sensing, power, controls, high voltage, and engineering education. The Department houses the largest university operated high voltage laboratory in North America.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Plans, organizes, directs and schedules operations and maintenance in functional areas of building services.
2. Exercises oversight of ordering, use, storage, and security of supplies, tools, and equipment.
3. Insures facilities are kept in a clean, presentable, and operational condition.
4. Coordinates set-ups for events of MSU departments, student organizations and guests.
5. Conducts site evaluations as required.
6. Assists with the Electrical and Computer Engineering inventory.
7. Collaborates with various internal and external departments/customers to effectively coordinate set-ups, repairs, maintenance, and building closures.
8. Design, fabricate, assemble and test various mechanical equipment and devices in the ECE Shop.
9. Supervise, manage, and issue keys, access cards, and other items related to building access and security.
10. Participates in development, implementation and maintenance of policies, objectives, short-and long-range planning; develops and implements projects and programs to assist in accomplishment of established goals.
11. Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree with 2 years' experience in facilities or building management. Demonstrated supervisory experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment. Knowledge of federal, state and local safety regulations, protocols, and/or procedures. Knowledge of organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures. Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals. Employee development and performance management skills. Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications. Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
• Regularly involves lifting, bending or other physical exertion. Often exposed to one or more elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, etc.
• Occasional-Externally imposed deadlines; set and revised beyond one’s control; interruptions influence priorities; difficult to anticipate nature or volume of work with certainty beyond a few days; irregular hours often anticipated; meeting of deadlines and coordination of unrelated activities are key to position; may involve conflict-resolution or similar interactions involving emotional issues or stress on a regular basis.
• Job frequently requires standing, walking, reaching, climbing or balancing, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Job occasionally requires sitting, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, and lifting more than 100 pounds.
• Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
