Department Profile:

The Department of Finance and Economics serves the State of Mississippi by providing advanced educational opportunities for students in the fields of Economics, Finance, Insurance, and Real Estate. As part of the College of Business, the department is responsible for instruction leading to a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree with majors in Economics and Finance along with a minor concentration in Insurance. The department also sponsors the Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree with a major in Economics for the College of Arts and Sciences, as well as, minors in both Business Economics and Finance. Graduate programs offered by the department include the Master of Arts (MA) in Economics, as well as, the Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in both Applied Economics and Finance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Teaching Finance at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
2. Scholarly activity required as part of the College's accreditation standards.
3. Advising student organizations.
4. Engaging in routine departmental, college, and university service functions,
5. Engaging in other related duties, as directed.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree in Finance is required. All applicants must demonstrate teaching experience at the undergraduate level and possess effective written and oral communication skills.

ABDs or degree pending considered (all but DISS):


Preferred Qualifications:

An established record of effective teaching at the college level. Preference will be given to those applicants with the ability to teach graduate level courses, as well as, those with professional credentials (CFA, CFP, CTP, Series 6, Series, 7, etc.).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Commitment to high quality teaching.
2. Strong communication skills in writing and public speaking.
3. Ability to work effectively with students in a classroom environment.
4. Willingness to serve on departmental and college committees.
5. Intra personal skills necessary to work effectively with students and colleagues in a multidisciplinary department.
6. Ability to effectively lead a student organization.
