The department (www.comm.msstate.edu) is one of the largest on campus. Approximately 575 majors are in concentrations of Broadcasting, Communication Studies, Journalism, Public Relations, and Theatre. Students may choose concentrations in more than one area, and minors are offered in each concentration.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the activities below. The successful candidate will advise the independent student newspaper, The Reflector (founded in 1884), and teach two courses per semester. Courses include, but are not limited to, Introduction to News Writing, Editing and Typography, Photography, Advanced News Reporting, Feature Writing and Journalism Ethics.
Summer teaching is often available, but is not guaranteed. The successful candidate will assist with the continuing development of curriculum in the journalism concentration.
A Master's degree in journalism or closely related field.
ABDs or degree pending considered (all but DISS):
The ideal candidate will have a Master’s degree in Journalism, or similar area and prior collegiate teaching experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The successful candidate must have a thorough knowledge of the field and a willingness to participate collegially in a broad department. Colleagues must be able to communicate that knowledge in the classroom environment to students as well as to other important groups through scholarship and service. Working Conditions and Physical Effort:
The successful candidates must be able to teach in a classroom setting, work in a newsroom, and conduct service in the profession.
