Assistant Professor 013500 - Truck Crops Branch Exp Station Central MS Area
This is a 12-month, tenure track assistant professor position with the Central Mississippi Research and Extension Center (CMREC) at the Truck Crop Branch Experiment Station with an academic home in the Department of Plant and Soil Sciences on the main MSU campus. This horticultural-based position will focus on applied research in vegetable crops relevant to central and south, MS, in field, high tunnel, and greenhouse production systems. As an Assistant Professor, this faculty member will be expected to develop, coordinate, and implement applied research for Mississippi’s vegetable industry. The candidate will develop and maintain close working relationships with vegetable producers, shippers, processors, and research scientists. The scientist will also be expected to work closely with Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station (MAFES) research colleagues to ensure vegetable and fruit research and outreach programs are focused on the needs of the stakeholders. Specific stakeholder groups are: Mississippi Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association, Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation, and other related producer associations. This faculty member will maintain programmatic ties with research faculty, State Specialists and other scientists in the Department of Plant and Soil Sciences at Mississippi State University.

The Intern will rotate between surgery and medicine (food animal) and theriogenology (all species), both in house, and ambulatory services (large animal). The food animal clinical annual case load is 800-900 cases/year (beef 60%, dairy 30%, small ruminats 10%), and ambulatory is 1200 trips/year (40% equine, 40% beef cow/calf and 20% dairy/small ruminants).
