Position Function:

As a member of the Golf Management Team, the Head Golf Professional has the responsibility for the overall management of the golf operation while working cooperatively with other departments.

Salary Grade:  16

Please see Staff Compensation Structure or Skilled Crafts and Service Maintenance Compensation Schedule for salary ranges.  For salary grade UC, these positions are "Unclassified" and salary ranges are determined by the hiring department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Oversee the daily golf operations and maintenance of equipment and facilities including practice facilities and golf cart fleet
2. Track and verify all players and guest green fees, golf cars, club care, lockers, handicap fees, and other charges necessary to facilitate accurate accounting and recordkeeping
3. Develop and manage an innovative tournament program, group outings, and leagues that service all customer segments
4. Provide professional club repair and club fitting services
5. Oversee retail merchandise concession and golf merchandising in step with the mission of the golf operation and facility
6. Supervise physical inventories, present a diverse and desirable array of golf equipment, apparel, accessories
7. Assist in the development of necessary systems utilizing POS to safequard inventories and cash
8. Maintain an attractive and orderly appearance in and around the golf shop
9. Develop, provide, and oversee enhanced golf instruction and development programs offering individual and group clinics for all levels. Ensure that the services of a well trained staff of professional instructors are available where required
10. Utilize PGA of America player development tools, resources, and materials
11. Recruit, hire, train, motivate, and supervise all golf department staff
12. Maintain accurate payroll records
13. Ensure evaluations and annual reviews are completed and recorded for all applicable staff
14. Update and maintain golf shop policies and procedures and ensure they are adhered to and posted in proper areas
15. Maintain safety standards and safety equipment within OSHA requirements
16. Assist in publications of newsletters, informational and promotional materials

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors Degree with a preferred focus in PGA Golf Management, Business, Sport & Recreation, or a closely related field

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience: Class A Member of the Professional Golfers Association of America. Minimum of 5 years experience in golf programming.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Maintain PGA of America membership in good standing in an active classification
2. Fundamental knowlege of the game of golf, rules of golf, golf facility operations, and tournament operations
3. Fundamental supervisor practices and principles
4. Act as a role model for all employees by demonstrating the behavior and work ethic expected of all employees
5. Strong organizational, planning, and prioritizing skills
6. Self-motivated with desire to promote and market
7. Service and customer focused attitude
8. Experienced in written and oral business communications
9. Remain up-to-date on customer relationship management tactics and strategies
10. Utilize the resources of PGA player development programs
11. Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel and other applications, i.e. email, internet, POS, tournament, and database
12. Maintain and promote a positive professional image within the community
13. Attend conferences, workshops, meetings, and trade shows to keep abreast of marketing and business trends
14. Maintain a credible golf game and remain current on teaching innovations

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

1. Must be willing to work both in an office setting and outdoors
2. Must be willing to perform maintenance, clerical and other duties as necessary
3. Must be willing to work weekends
