The Extension Center for Technology Outreach at Mississippi State University invites applications for a software architect. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and managing the full software development life cycle process of a development team as well as designing, coding, and testing application software.
Salary Grade: 17

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead software development efforts from a technology perspective. This includes being fully involved with all technical activities within the development team (software development life cycle activities, code reviews, research, etc.) and mentoring of developers.
The software architect will perform the following: Design user interaction models and workflows; Design, code, and test application software solutions; Create prototypes; Author detailed specifications and project level documentation; Effectively communicate conceptual ideas; Establish standards and best practices; Provide status reports and updates of projects to the project manager; Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems or related area, 4 years experience.
Experience with multi-tier system development; experience building and supporting mission critical applications, running in a highly distributed manner; considerable knowledge of configurations, maintenance, and inner workings of application servers; experience creating and reviewing estimates and effort reports form development team.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
A thorough understanding of information systems, relational databases, object oriented programming, and backup and recovery procedures.
Demonstrated ability to analyze data, solve problems, and prioritize and organize work to achieve stated goals.
Excellent interpersonal and communications skills; master of user interactions design skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Ability to prioritize and manage work to critical project timelines in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to develop new approaches to complex design problems; must be organized, have an eye for detail, and be able to put ideas into a tangible form.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
Sitting: required to be able to sit for long periods of time, as typical days will involve sitting at a PC or workstation.
Dexterity and visual activity: required to be able to use computer screens and keyboards.
No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
Nor or very limited physical effort required.
