The Senior Computer Specialist is responsible for systems administration support for the High Performance Computing Collaboratory (HPC2) and affiliated research centers. The Senior Computer Specialist should have a thorough understanding of the UNIX/Linux operating system and should understand system management philosophies for supporting a large number of users and machines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Manage the design, specification, procurement, deployment, and operation of UNIX/Linux-based computing systems, including desktop, server, and high performance computing (HPC) resources.
2. Provide high-level user support for UNIX/Linux-based computing systems.
3. Research, evaluate and recommend the implementation of new technologies and work with other technical staff to develop implementation strategies.
4. Manage, train, and provide operational oversight of junior-level systems administrators, as well as work with other system administration staff members.
5. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree with 8 years of experience in computer support or a computer related field. Additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.

Additional Qualifications:
• Demonstrated knowledge in research computing, including experience delivering and managing high performance computing (HPC) cluster solutions.
• Extensive working knowledge of SuSE, Redhat and derivative operating systems.
• Extensive working knowledge of networking technologies and services including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, PXE, and InfiniBand.
• Extensive working knowledge of Linux software packaging deployment tools.
• Experience with shell scripting and other high-level programming languages
• Well-developed interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to perform with professionalism and produce quality, reliable results.
• Strong analytical and technical skills with an attention for detail and accuracy.
• Highly self-motivated and directed, with experience working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
• Must be US citizen.

•Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
